The copywriter behind the homepage

Hello, I’m Emily, a British freelance copywriter and independent journalist based (mostly) in Wiltshire (when I’m not in sunnier climes escaping the British weather). I provide copywriting services to a range of clients - big and small - and articles for various publications.

Writing experience

I’ve around 15 years’ writing experience behind me producing copy and content in various capacities, but mainly in marketing and communications roles. Having worked across various sectors (fashion, travel, charity) and in a number of different countries (Japan, Australia, France) I’m adept at writing in different styles and I understand the importance of tone.

It all began at university where I spent three years churning out essays and penning poetry as part of an English degree.

After the Jane Austen discussions and poetic musings came to a end, I began my career in the fashion PR, writing press releases and producing content for social media channels and fashion blogs.

Marketing and events

Later, in an events and marketing role, I wrote copy for large-scale, London-based events in the form of press releases and web content.

I also project managed the marketing and communications aspects of divisions within the University of New South Wales, Australia.

Copywriting for a cause

I honed a different writing style in the charity and education sectors where much of my copywriting centred around reports and proposals, website content and marketing collateral.

The Japan connection

For two years in Japan I worked as a writer on projects for both Japanese, British and American organisations. Most recently, I was the lead copywriter on a large, government-commissioned project to help increase international tourism in a particular region.

Now…

As a freelance copywriter, I do everything from helping brands develop their TOV (and overall identity) to producing conversion-driven email copy, web and social content, and long-form editorial pieces.

I work with agencies, small businesses and large corporations, whether it’s part of a long-term contract or a one-off assignment.
